Where, When, and How to Support Oklahoma’s Breweries During the Cornavirus Outbreak

Updated March 27, 2020. The big news is that the Oklahoma ABLE Commission is now allowing home delivery. One major drawback: “Online payments prior to delivery remain restricted at this time.” You can read the entire document here.

If there ever were a time to drink Oklahoma beer, it’s now. The mandated responses to the coronavirus outbreak upended this vibrant scene in an instant, jeopardizing the livelihoods of brewery staff and imperiling the survival of some of our local breweries and homebrew shops.

I’ve compiled the list below so that you have an overview of what’s going on across the state. The list currently covers about half of Oklahoma’s breweries and brewpubs, but with your help I can keep developing this list as a central resource for anyone who wants to help Oklahoma breweries (and homebrew shops) weather the storm.Drink Oklahoma local beer

*Help me expand the list by sharing this post across all of your social media platforms. If you’re an Oklahoma brewery owner, brewer, or staff member, please reach out to me with info about what your brewery is doing, and whether or not you’re selling gift cards.

What We Can Do To Support Oklahoma’s Craft Beer Breweries

We can buy local beer at the bottle shop, but the best way to support our local breweries and homebrew shops (don’t forget the homebrew shops!) is to buy straight from the source.

Oklahoma breweries are doing what they can to make that easier for us. Several are offering taproom or curb-side pickup, and some are selling gift cards you can purchase. (Think of it as a kind of loan, or even a donation, to help the breweries with cashflow.)

Frenzy Brewing Company: From Matt Conner: “Once we get certificate of occupancy (hopefully this week) and get our brew system commissioned we will start brewing. Once we have beer to sell we will be allowed to do curbside sales out of the taproom. We do not have hours figured out yet. It will be a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks before we will have any beer to sell. We will have gift certificates once we get our taproom open. The best thing people can do to support their local breweries is to buy your beer at the source. Every little bit will help all of us make it through this challenging time.” Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/FrenzyBrewing/ Stay tuned for updates.

Lazy Circles: *Update from Stephen Swanson: “We have switched to to-go sales only for the foreseeable future. We do sell gift cards, and they can be purchased over the phone and put in the mail if that’s preferable. We still sell to a few liquor stores locally but those sales have slowed down as well, we suspect they are also selling less products. We’re pretty much like any other small business right now, we are trying to minimize our contact with folk yet still get the bare necessities paid. As this situation worsens or improves we will make changes to reflect that. It’s a tough deal for everyone but we’re lucky to be part of a strong and supportive community that has welcomed us since day one. Our new to-go hours are Thursday through Saturday 4 to 8 pm. If you would like curbside pickup please call us at 405-310-5364.”

Lively Beerworks: “In accordance with City mandates, Lively will be closing our Taproom until April 12th, including to-go sales. You won’t have to go without fresh IPA and Amber Lager- we encourage you to support your local Liquor Stores, Convenience stores, and Grocery Stores during this time. Be safe, support local, and keep it Lively.” (Provided by Mike Oliver of REB). Check Facebook for a list of which stores are carrying Lively’s beers: https://www.facebook.com/livelybeerworks/

Roughtail: *Update from Blaine Stansel: “Roughtail is opening during certain hours each week, and we’ll announce that on our social media pages. We’re calling it curbside, but you do have to come to the service window at our patio. We’re actually in the middle of switching POS systems so our new gift cards have not arrived yet. Old gift cards are still redeemable now though. For us personally we just hired 5 new bartenders and they barely got through training before this happened. So timing for us was particularly bad. Some also quit jobs outside the service sector. We’re trying to do whatever we can to find work for them to do to lessen the effects on them.” Upcoming to-go hours: March 21, 12-6pm; March 23, 4-8pm; March 25, 4-8pm; March 27, 4-8pm. 6-packs of core beer, special release crowlers, and barrel-aged Polar Eclipse variants available.

Stonecloud: We’ve decided to have a bottle release [Living Room Campfire] this coming week before we will likely have to close our doors indefinitely as we are seeing in other parts of the country.Stonecloud OKC drink local How This Will Work: Bottles will only be available through pre-order on our website. Stonecloudbrewing.com/shop Pre-sales end on Monday at midnight for Tuesday pick up and Tuesday at midnight for Wednesday pick up. Choose your pick-up time and how you’d like to pick up your bottles. You may either come into the taproom (3 people at a time) or call the taproom when you pull up, show your ID to our staff and we’ll set your bottles in your car for you. Please arrive at or within 30 minutes of you pick up time as we do not want any crowds. We will be donating a portion of sales from this beer to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. Every bottle, every six pack, every gift card, every t-shirt makes a difference. (Announcement adapted from Facebook, 21 March.)
